Gratitude and Giving

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and I have much to be thankful for.  I have a loving family, caring friends, fantastic colleagues, and amazing clients.  And we’ve been blessed with financial prosperity.

It is the goal of Ahara Advisors to help other families enjoy financial prosperity and to be able to use that prosperity to help others.

I’m giving details on charitable organizations my family has supported over the last few years, along with why.  I hope to make it easier for you, the reader, to find worthy organizations to support. Some of the organizations below may resonate with your values, and some may not. And that is OK.

We tend to schedule gifts to reoccur annually or semi-annually, which makes it easier for organizations to predict their incoming cash flows.

Happy (thanks)Giving!

-Aseem

Give Well Top Charities Fund

Give Well is an organization that researches other charities to find outstanding giving opportunities.  They look for organizations that are likely to have a large positive impact on lives saved per dollar spent globally.  In the last year, they’ve helped to fund efforts to:

These initiatives were focused on improving the lives of African children. Give Well believes these interventions are so effective that ~$5000 saves about ~one life. You really can’t beat that.

The ACLU (New Jersey)

We started donating to the ACLU when the Trump administration implemented a policy to separate children from their parents at the US / Mexican border in 2018.  The ACLU successfully lead the legal fight against this cruel policy and helped to reunite many kidnapped children back with their families.

Since then, we’ve been very happy to support some of the local work they’ve done in NJ.  They have led efforts to decriminalize marijuana use in NJ, which has helped reduce incarceration for non-violent crimes. They were very effective in releasing prisoners near the end of their sentences when Covid 19 started sickening and killing inmates at extraordinarily high rates.

Doctors Without Borders

“Doctors Without Borders brings medical humanitarian assistance to victims of conflict, natural disasters, epidemics, and health care exclusion.”  This organization seems to always show up in hopeless situations, giving a little hope when it seems to have died.  That feels important.
